Beenie is no Worrier

By: Stacy-Marie Ishmael | June 19th, 2006 | 1 Comment »

“The team is ready again, they gained a lot of confidence, a lot of courage and we know what we have to do. The message to the guys is focus on the Paraguay match try to win the match, do what you have to do. In that way, we will go for it and try to have a good result.” – Leo “Warrior Chief” Beenhakker

Tomorrow! Tomorrow!

Tomorrow we play Paraguay and England play Sweden. My Swedish friends are going to throttle me for this, but I hope that England finally beats Sweden. (Forgive me, Svenska Fans!) More than that, T&T need to convincingly thrash Paraguay.

Beenie, as ever, remains philosophical:

You have 90 minutes to win a match and you can lose it in one second.

90 minutes.

I love this game.

Soca Warriors Vibes it Up

By: Stacy-Marie Ishmael | June 19th, 2006 | No Comments »

If you’ve never listened to the audio documentaries on BBC 1Xtra, now is a good time to start.
I’ve just spent a most enjoyable half-hour listening to the latest from the 1Xtra gang – a documentary on our beloved Soca Warriors. It features interviews with the Little Magician, the Duke, Tallest and Me Mum, as well as snippets from fans ... [read]

Send For The Doctor

“Send for the Doctor, I got the music fever … / I start to sweat and my temperature rise / I get diagnose with catching the vibes” – 3 Canal – Send for the Doctor
I haven’t been so well this weekend, so to keep my spirits up I’ve been listening to 3 Canal’s latest album, Vibes on repeat. It’s a ... [read]

Never Give Up The Fight

By: Stacy-Marie Ishmael | June 17th, 2006 | 6 Comments »

It’s been a tough week for us all.
But as the late great Robert Nesta Marley said, one good thing about music – when it hits, you feel no pain.
Via ttgapers.com, I’m bringing you a free download of our anthem, as well as the lyrics to the song.
Even better – the video:

Sancho Shows Them How It’s Done

By: Stacy-Marie Ishmael | June 16th, 2006 | 4 Comments »

Sigh.
Realising that Carlos Edwards is already married was heart-rending; now, I’ve discovered that my beloved Brent Sancho is also headed down the aisle.
Sancho proposed to his girlfriend, a Trinidadian named Jana Herbert-Fiu, via text-message ahead of the T&T vs England matchup. Herbert-Fiu hasn’t accepted just yet, however.
Says the BBC:
“Jana Herbert-Fiu, 24, played a strong defence, promising to text her reply ... [read]

3000 England Fans Can Be Wrong

By: Stacy-Marie Ishmael | June 16th, 2006 | 6 Comments »

Over at the 4thegame.com, I found this tidbit:
“[in a poll by] UKTV G2, where 3,000 people were asked where Trinidad and Tobago is, 37% thought it was in Africa, 19% thought it was in the South Pacific, while 10% didn’t even know that it was just one country.”
I wonder if, after yesterday, more people know better?

Wear Red, See Yellow

By: Stacy-Marie Ishmael | June 16th, 2006 | 14 Comments »

I’m not impressed by the Crouch Incident. I’m even less impressed by the argument that “it’s football and these things happen”, primarily in light of the way that the T&T games have been refereed.
I concede that Avery John deserved a yellow card for his first tackle, and that he was almost asking for the second call. I agree that ... [read]

We Were Outplayed (In the last 10 minutes)

By: Stacy-Marie Ishmael | June 15th, 2006 | 42 Comments »

And I see yellow.
That is all.
(Except: Damn, Stevie G is annoyingly good)
(Except: *censored* offside)
(Except: We are Soca Warriors. Win OR lose, we are fighters.)
Vibes it up my Warriors. We are all proud of you.
Onward to Paraguay.
