A Good Beating

By: nizam | September 25th, 2008 | No Comments »

I remember going to school in Trinidad in the 80’s and back then a good beating by your teacher will set you straight, this is what the TNT football team got from the US. In all honesty the selection committee is the one to blame for this, by selecting and playing under strength squad in a very important game, even Shaka Hislop guest host on ESPN was suprised. This team need a quick revamp no more experimenting with players, the coaching staff must either put the best team moving forward or resigned..nuff said.

One That Got Away

A lapse by the TNT team in the dying stages of Saturday’s encounter with Guatemala will cause a major set back as TNT give the opposition breathing space . The performance was ok but TNT must perform better against the US. However if TNT miss the final round by a point or two, this game will be remembered for ... [read]

Must win game

Well TNT fans here we go again, it took me sometime to write this blog but as I watch all the friendlies and qualifying games thus far, the selection and non selection of certain players ( ie Chris Birchall, Stern John) by the PUPPET coach makes me wonder how far will we go, but however I must support TNT. The ... [read]

The End Is The Beginning

The Warriors bid farewell to Rotenburg on Wednesday, and last night they touched down in Piarco International Airport in Trinidad to a heroes’ welcome.
Jah Gol, a regular poster on the Soca Warriors Forums, describes the scene:
It was truly remarkable to hear the sound of the people screaming for the Warriors. I’ve never heard anything that loud before. The chants wouldn’t ... [read]

Memories Remain

I have loved this game ever since I first kicked (well, tripped over) a football in my backyard in Trinidad, at an age when crawling still came more naturallly than this awkward two-leggedness.
I’ve played various sports at different levels, but none have ever come close to usurping football’s throne. Perhaps I inherited this love (though alas, not the skills) from ... [read]

Not With A Bang

At half time I was down but not out.
At full time that Warriors were down 2-0 and out of the World Cup.
Till 2010, then.
Or at least – till tomorrow.
(Brent – doh study it, you are still and always a Warrior. Carlos – you are my player of the tournament. Birchall – you are a Trini, a Warrior, a hero in ... [read]

Time To Put On Your White Clothes

One of my all-time favourite soca songs is called Glow, by Alison Hinds and David Rudder. It is six Carnivals old, having been released back in 2001.
The song is a tribute to the popular “Glow” fete in Trinidad, the premise of which is that everyone wears white in a venue lit by ultraviolet lights. The effect is ethereal.
“Wear white, ... [read]

Gray Days

Defensive stalwart Cyd Gray is injured, and will miss our game against Paraguay tomorrow.
It’s a good thing we’ve got Avery John back following his two game suspension.
Fingers crossed that there are no other injuries in the Warrior camp before kickoff tomorrow!

Do or Die

Every day our coach, Leo Beenhakker, keeps reminding the squad that our job is not yet over. We’ve already proved we’re not whipping boys but we want more. Recording Trinidad & Tobago’s first World Cup win is the minimum goal we’ve set ourselves. Then, if the gods are our on our side, who knows?
To beat Paraguay we need to be ... [read]
