We Were Outplayed (In the last 10 minutes)

June 15th, 2006 | By: Stacy-Marie Ishmael | 42 Comments »

And I see yellow.

That is all.

(Except: Damn, Stevie G is annoyingly good)

(Except: *censored* offside)

(Except: We are Soca Warriors. Win OR lose, we are fighters.)

Vibes it up my Warriors. We are all proud of you.

Onward to Paraguay.

I’m still very, very proud of the Warriors. Everyone swore they would have gotten eaten up by England, but that didn’t happen. Whenever a team surpasses their expectations, that’s always a good in MY book. But where are players like Latapy? Regardless, the Warriors brought much pride to our country today. Go SOCA WARRIORS!!! You are fighters for truth!

TnT did more than just “hold out for 80 mins”. We had our chances, but we had to be prudent. All of England should thank the tireless John Terry for his brilliant flying clearance off the line of Stern John’s header. What a different game it might have been had that one gone it. But as the Warrior Chief (Beenhaker) himself would admit: football is game of funny bounces sometimes, and one has to make the most of their chances. Congrats to England for making the most of theirs, but TnT can still hold their heads high today.

What a performance! I wish I could take some of that Soca spirit and put it into Team USA!

Holding out for 80 minutes against a world footballing superpower when you have been written off as nothing is a great performance in my book. Beenie has coached marvelous games thus far. Putting in Glen for sudden counterattacks after half, when the other team is winded, is a stroke of genius. T&T are clearly not up to England’s level at individual skills so the strategy of compact defense and quick counter was perfect. I hope the US uses it against Italy!

England is going out in the round of 16. Germany and Ecuador have been playing at a level orders of magnitude above England.

Ouch, that last goal by England really hurt in case of a tiebreaker with Sweden.

If England beats Sweden 2-0 and if TnT beat Paraguay 2-0 then TnT thru to the next round.

If England beats Sweden 2-0 and TnT beats Paraguay 1-0 then I think, yes I think, it comes down to a coin flip…wow

Please correct meh If I’m wrong.

Damnit.

I so so wanted England to lose and I so so wanted T&T to win.

Trinidad & Tobago played very well, however, and deserve respect.

The Trinbagonian spirit not dying that’s for sure. Glad the players walked out to acknowledge the supporters and we chip all the way back to the bus singing Maximus Class A choon.

Next up Paraguay - which in terms of ‘anti-climaxes’ will be the hardest to win emotionally I think but is necessary.

A draw, loss, win - and all in style - so much to be proud of.

Beaten today but in no way disgraced. If we dont make it through this year - South Africa here we come yes?

My dad went tothe game and was so impressed by their spirit and their fun loving attitude…. so they joined the t&t army and were kitted out in all the gear. it is amazing that such a small country can almost bring a footballing giant to its knees.

To me, this match was more than football. It was victory in the worldcup and victory over our history. Though my heart still has a bit of that sunken feeling (oh how badly i wanted us to win this one!), I am very proud of our boys for their grace and their spirit. I hope they know that people on the streets were still partying today because…”I am a soca warrior. Win or lose we are fighters”… After the silence, we picked ourselves up and celebrated your fighting spirit. We love you, give us your best in the next match. And binarybloke…ENGLAND GOT A FIGHT FOR THEIR LIFE!!!

The first goal should not have been allowed! Sancho’s hair was pulled by the giant Crouch…only truly visible in the slow motion replays… I was so ticked off! T&T should have won…if the first goal had been disallowed and Crouch given a red card, then I bet the second goal would probably have not happened…and if the offsides call hadn’t happened then T&T would have won! Sadly, the referee missed the foul. My condolences to Sancho and the whole T&T team…hang in there guys!

Kev.

We need to beat Paraguay with at least 2 goal and then England have to beat Sweaden like 2-0. Then we will be tied with Sweden. We will advance if we have more goals scorded. Alyuh fellas shouldn’t feel down at all, cause look at the way we qualify- dis ent nothing to loose hope for.

Having seen that photo, I think the title of this blog should read “We Were NOT Outplayed.”

I have lost all respect for Crouch.

I watched this game and chills would come down my body everytime T&T would touch the ball..You guys played GREAT!!!, i honestly believe that next cup you guys will kill everyone you play…Outstanding game(mostly thanks to you guys)…England didn’t deserve to be playing with you…They looked like a minor league team…

Thanks For your Efforts…The World is Watching…

Vin, you lost. How were you not outplayed? You moan about Crouch but do you really think T&T defenders were choirboys?

We see what we want to see…for you Crouch has cheated, for me he’s attacked the ball determined to score. So the guys hair got tugged…he has damn long hair!

In a more sober light I admit T&T gave a good tactical game, but that’s not a surprise to me no matter how small the country. The world cup is changing and there are no easy games anymore.

Firstly, T&T played a great game, and proved that the England team are just a bunch of overpaid prima donnas. Secondly I agree with Marvel, England should be ashamed of themselves if the only way they could get a goal was to cheat. If Crouch hadn’t pulled Sancho’s hair and prevented him from heading the ball himself, England would have gone on to lose or draw at best.

I’ve been looking for an action replay of Crouch’s goal on the web, and there seems to be a news blackout on the subject. They only showed a brief slowmo from the T&T corner last night on Newsnight that showed clearly how bad Crouch’s foul was. Shame on you Crouch.

I wonder if Binarybloke would feel the same way if it was the other way around. For myself whether crouch cheated or not is irrelevant. Fact is the WARRIORS gave as good as they got, create opportunities, and fought hard. England won so congratulations to them but there’s no dishonour in the we we lost. The gloating of binarybloke and others of his ilk cannot change the facts.

England may have won but their game was a disappointment. This game was expected to be an easy win for England but as you can see the Soca Warriors put up quite a fight. For the smallest country to be qualified in the World Cup, playing for the 1st time, they are doing extremely well. They deserve great respect and admiration. TnT’s loss to world power England isn’t defeatless, it’s Victorious. Be Proud.

The Trinidad & Tobago football team did an excellent job, I wish that more subs were made, wish Mr. Latapy played for a few, but I’m not the coach, now lets beat Paraguay real real BADD and we need to do it by enough goals so if there is a tie in the standings between Trinidad and Tobago and Sweeden, we will win via goals scored and advance to the second round.

GO SOCA WARRIORS, time fuh Paraguay to feel the sting of the T&T Warrior.

Stinky Crouch!, Boooooo! last minute dirty move by him (hair pulling), he should not paly in the next few games and should be embarrassed to show his face in england. Refs should be allowed to see replay to make goal official if appeal is made, what can be done about this in football? Win with pride not with a dirty move like that, he is already so tall, why Crouch? You will get what is comming to you……
kick to the nuts :)
