Warriors’ Week in Review
This week: Kelvin Jack “confident” about World Cup place; Jason Scotland is one to watch; “T&T steelbands going to Germany”
Kelvin Jack is mighty jumpy. The injured goalie responded to comments about his fitness for the World Cup (or lack thereof) by insisting that the story had been “blown out of proportion.” According to a story by Lasana Liburd in the
Trinidad Express, Jack is “ready to defend my country if selected” and is “looking forward to the World Cup.” So are we Jack. So are we.
Jason Scotland is a Saint. The St. Johnstone-based Warrior has been striking like a man inspired: Scotland scored four goals in his last two outings for the club. Beenie, I hope you’re paying attention.

This week, Roger Boynes (T&T Minister for Sport & Youth Affairs), announced that two of T&T’s steel orchestras, the Laventille Rhythm Section and the Woodbrook Playboyz, will be accompanying the Warriors to Germany in June. Given that I have previously railed against the government for failing to prepare a cultural contingent, I suppose that I ought to bite my tongue and be grateful. Not quite. It is still not clear whether the pannists will be allowed inside the stadia with their instruments. Perhaps more importantly, when asked if the Ministry would be covering the airfare and accomodation costs for the two groups, Boynes replied that he was currently “discussing” the issue with the TTFF. That’s not quite the same thing as saying “yes.”
