Warriors 0 - Lions 1
Damn you, Steven Gerrard.
In case you didn’t catch that Liverpool vs West Ham FA Cup final yesterday, the final result was 6-4 to Liverpool. On penalties. It was glorious, beautiful football. It was Steven Gerrard at his inspired, deadly best - with the game drawn 3-3, the Man in Red blasted a volley past a stunned Shaka in the 91st minute. It was extra time, and then penalties. It was Stevie G showing the world that even without Rooney, England might just have a chance.
It was also a lesson for the Warrior defence. Hislop was consistently wrong footed, and Beenie must be alarmed by the fact that one of his goalies has such a tough time whenever he has to come off his line.
Definitely looking forward to the next round of friendlies. We’ve seen Jack against Peru and Hislop against England (if you will). Will it be Ince against Wales (and Ryan Giggs)? Mix it up Beenie, mix it up.

I have respectfully disagree with you on two counts. First of all, I don’t think the standard of football yesterday was anything to write home about, and the level of defending left a lot to be desired. Exciting and nerve racking, yes. Glorious? Not in my humble opinion. As for Shaka, I don’t think he could be faulted for any of the three goals. Cisse was within point blank range, and Gerrard’s two beauties were basically unsavable. For the equalising goal, Shaka almost got to it, but I don’t think any ‘keeper in the world could have stopped that. As for the penalties, it’s a lottery anyway. Bottom line is that I don’t think we have anything to worry about with Hislop. I’m so curious to see who Beenhakker starts in goal at the World Cuo.

Liverpool midfield/attacking - excellent.
West Ham possession/ball control - excellent.
Will concede about the defending, and add to that the abysmal standard of the West Ham penalties.
R.e. Shaka - Whilst I agree that they were unsaveable, my main point is that Shaka didn’t even look like he could save them, much less make an attempt. And the penalties are also important - he’s lost his stretch.
I still think he’s more consistent in goal than Clayton or Ince, and like you, I can’t wait to see what Beenie decides.
