Warrior Women

Miss Soca Warrior's Winning SmileI’m not a huge fan of beauty pageants (and let’s avoid the obvious barbs about not thinking I could win one, etc). However, I’m willing to give mention to the Miss World Cup because it’s at least obliquely aligned to football, and because the T&T delegate, looks set to win the crown.

T&T Carib GirlsMiss Soca Warrior, Miss Meagan Monsegue, is said to be “delighted” to be representing T&T in the pageant, which features delegates from each of the 32 World Cup qualifying countries.

According to the translation on the TnTinGermany website (the competition’s site is in German), the contestants will compete in eight groups of four, identical to the World Cup draw – so Miss T&T is up against Miss England, Miss Paraguay and Miss Sweden. Sixteen women will advance to the group stage, and winner will be crowned at a ceremony at the Europa Amusement park.

This June, the Warriors will represent for T&T football. Our Warrior Women will also be out in force, representing the aesthetic attractions of T&T.

[...] While the football World Cup is the ultimate sporting event, it does face its fair share of competitors this year. On June 1, the world will stop and all eyes will be on the Miss World Cup beauty pageant where 32 contestants will first appear in the football strip of the country they represent before changing to evening dress and then finally bathing costumes. We might have to LiveBlog this. [...]

I see! The delegates do not need to be officially approved by the country they represent to be eligible. It is open to any applicant who is originally from one of the 32 countries.

But I don’t see one from Iran yet! So come on all Iranian female readers!!! Act on!

That’s pathetic, we should be supporting women’s soccer, not silly little beauty pageants.

Why not have the men be in pageants too?
