Warrior Profile: Birthday Boy Brent Sancho
Brent Sancho turns 29 today. As a present, he’ll become the first player to be profiled on this blog.

Poor Brent. Ever since he chose country over club he’s been having a hard time. But then, making principled – if unpopular – decisions is nothing new for this talented defender. Back in 2003 , he was one a handful of T&T footballers who chose to stand up for players’ rights, risking an indefinite ban from from the national game. He has also overcome personal tragedy and discrimination.
On and off the field, Brent is intelligent, articulate and a natural leader. As well as racking up considerable playing experience in the USA, Finland and the UK, he graduated from St. John’s University with a double degree in Psychology and Sports Science. On the pitch, he is a versatile player, equally at home in defence or up front scoring goals.
Sancho has been keen to impress Beenie and secure a place in the World Cup squad. Unfortunately, he has spent most of his time at Gillingham this season on the bench and his transfer to Swansea fell through.Apparently, Swansea manager Kenny Jackett was annoyed by the loan terms that Gillingham wanted to impose.
For more about Brent, check out this feature-length article over at the Scotsman. Sancho also did an interview with Soca Warriors Online in 2004.
Good luck Brent. You’re definitely a Soca Warrior, and we’re rooting for you.

There’s only one Sancho. There’s only one Sancho. SANCHO.
Love the guy and have followed his career since he played for the Portland Timbers in the US.

[...] My fondness for Chris Birchall (7) is well established; I adore Carlos Edwards (11) for his athleticism, his flair and his writing skills; I’m a long-time fan of Brent Sancho (5) and I’m definitely enchanted by our number 10, the Little Magician himself. [...]
