The ‘Official’ T&T World Cup Song
Trinidad & Tobago. Land of the steelpan – the patent for which belongs to two Americans. Home of the Greatest Show on Earth – but everyone thinks Brasil when they think about Carnival. And now, the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation have outsourced our ‘official’ World Cup song to – two guys from Leeds.
It’s not easy being a fan of the Soca Warriors. Constantly having to defend ourselves against naysayers; rueing the general ineptitude of the T&T government; the panic that sets in whenever Kelvin Jack prepares to receive a corner kick. And yet, we don’t give up and we don’t give in. Because win or lose, we are fighters. The indomitable spirit and unconquerable will of the true Soca Warrior are brilliantly, superbly captured by soca artiste Maximus Dan. His song – Fighter – is the anthem of the Warrior Nation.
So when two guys from Leeds lay claim to having recorded the ‘only’ ‘official’ T&T World Cup Song – we, the fans of the Soca Warriors, shall scoff and turn our dials to Maximus.

[...] Two guys from Leeds/UK lay claim to have the only “official” tune for the Soca Warriors produced. This must be an insult to all the Trinbagonian musicians, who recorded over 20 songs to support their team. True fans stick to Maximus Dans “Fighter”, which is a true hynm. Today Trinidad & Tobago celebrates Shouter Baptist Liberation Day — with a public holiday, of course, so I’m at home playing my usual game of catch-up, without clients, editors (the Trinidadian ones, at least) and callers trying to reac…

I support the Soca Warriors 100% but what on earth is this thing with the tickets for the T&TvPeru match. I am just sick of the discrimination I mean really I have to own a Bmobile phone before I can get a ticket? When did TSTT start owning the Soca Warriors? Lord have mercy! and the price of theose tickets I might as well stay home and watch the match.

you people..
these tickets are CHEAP!
With success of the team comes changes…
they are not trying to Rob us if thats what you all are thinking..
How much youall think it is for a game in the finals?
I think the price though a lil heavy means nothing if you are a true..fan
however i agree their are some..things that could have been done better.
Buts lets be real Trini fans..
with success (which is something new to us..in terms of football this is the way of things.
(Can’t say i agree)
though

[...] There will be alot to remember. This Journey to Germany has been a long and arduous one: the Warriors had to play 20 matches to qualify for the final. We’ve had players come out of international retirement (Yorke and Latapy), coaching changes (Betille St Clair to Leo “Warrior Chief” Beenhakker), various scandals (Jack Warner vs The Government; The Government vs TTFF; The Government vs Itself; Jack Warner vs Everyone; those two guys from leeds) and so much more. Two Americans don’t hold the patent for the steelpan. They have a patent for an improvement. Even if the original inventor had patented the pan at the time of the invention, it would have long expired and open to the same improvements those two Americans made

Is that Maximus Dans song the one that goes “I’m a Soooooooca Warrior!” that I heard at Carnival this year?

Hi Dan – that’s the song exactly!

Charmaine, thank you for the refinement. It’s interesting that T&T don’t hold any patents on pan at all, as far as I am aware. I’m open to being corrected on that!
