The Final(ish) 23
Beenie was never going win The Slacker Coach Award - he has announced his final 23. Sort of.
Beenie named his provisional 24 back in April. We all wondered who the odd man out would be. Alas, Anthony Rougier - your dreams of Germany have been dashed.
That’s not quite the end of it, however - at least not for a certain Evans Wise. Wise, a left-footer currently playing for Waldhof Mannheim, had an outstanding game against the Grenadian Olympic XI a couple of weeks ago, and has since become a favourite of the pundits over at Soca Warriors Online. Now, Beenhakker has called him up to join the Warriors for their upcoming training camp in Manchester as a possible subsitute for Cornell Glen, who is out with a hamstring injury. [This is the Rooney Clause in action: FIFA regulations allow for a substitution up to 24-hours before the first match, once there is evidence of serious injury]
Here’s Beenie’s second 23+1:
Kelvin Jack (Dundee), Shaka Hislop (West Ham United), Clayton Ince (Coventry City)
Dennis Lawrence (Wrexham) Cyd Gray (CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh), Marvin Andrews (Glasgow Rangers), Brent Sancho (Gillingham), Ian Cox (Gillingham), Atiba Charles (W Connection), Avery John (New England Revolution), Silvio Spann (unattached)
Chris Birchall (Port Vale), Aurtis Whitley (CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh), Evans Wise (Waldhof Mannheim), Anthony Wolfe (Jabloteh), Densill Theobald (Falkirk), Carlos Edwards (Luton Town), Dwight Yorke (Sydney FC), Russell Latapy (Falkirk), Stern John (Coventry City), Kenwyne Jones (Southampton FC), Collin Samuel (Dundee United), Jason Scotland (St Johnstone), Cornell Glen (LA Galaxy).
