Starting XI vs Sweden (Redux)
I’ve revised my initial selection for a T&T starting XI against Sweden.
My new formation takes into consideration Dog’s injury, Beenhakker’s decision not to use Yorke in front but rather “between the midfield and the strikers and not as a target man” and his comment (reported on the Soca Warriors Online Forums that he’s averse to having Yorke and Latapy together on the pitch for any length of time since “we simply can’t pick too many ‘creative’ players because we’ll be looking to regain possession for long periods.”
I really want to see who Beenie is going to start in goal. I’ve been thinking about this, especially in light of Dog’s injury. Jack is capable of spectacular and heart-stopping saves; he is equally prone to spectacular and heart-stopping mistakes. Moreover, as evinced by our experiences in Bahrain and more recently against Wales and the Czech Republic, it’s usually Dog who picks up where Jack leaves off.
The Swedes have been preparing to meet Jack on Saturday. According to a story in the Evening Telegraph, the Swedish forwards have been practicing their low shots, in the belief that “Jack has a weakness with those type of shots and it is something that can be exploited.”
Actually, based on past performance Shaka is better at low, curving shots whereas Jack’s athletic prowess makes him very good at driving or stretching for the high balls. Just don’t tell the Swedish coach, Lars “Lasse” Lagerbäck.
As for the second half – I’d expect Latas to come on for Wise, and possibly Avery John for Brent Sancho.
No matter – we’ll know in a few hours what Beenie decides.
Vibes it up!
