Shaka Seeking his Dream

Here’s a story about keeper Shaka Hislop going after his dream of playing in the World Cup. Hislop has been a big part of Trinidad and Tobago soccer, but with the addition of Tony Warner and the play of Kelvin Jack, he has slid down the pecking order. Even with this development, he remains optimistic.

“I think Warner’s inclusion in the squad will bring out the best in Kelvin Jack and Clayton Ince, and I certainly hope it does the same for me,” he said.

I’ve always liked Hislop. He works hard and brings a passion to the team. I don’t know if he will be able to do enough to convince Beenhakker that he deserves playing time in Germany, but I do know that if given the chance he will represent himself well. Plus, who could dislike a guy who says things like this?:

‘I think that we’ll bring a lot of colour to the tournament, on and off the pitch. We’ve always had a lot of very talented players, but what we’ve lacked in the past is someone to harness that talent and steer the ship in the right direction.

‘Fortunately, now we’ve found that in the current coach and things have certainly gone very well under him, which is why everyone’s very excited about the prospects that this summer offers.’
