Roach Wants to be a Warrior

March 1st, 2006 | By: WC Bob | No Comments »

The number of players jumping on the Trinidad and Tobago bandwagon seems to be increasing each day. Stewart Roach, the leading scorer in the Ridgeons League (an amateur league of all things!), says he has been trying to get Soca Warriors officials to give him a shot at playing for the team. Roach was raised in England, but his father was born in Trinidad so he would be eligible to play.

“I haven’t heard back as yet, but I’ve asked them to come and give me a look and I’m expecting a reply in the next couple of weeks. I feel I’m on top of my form right now. I’m scoring goals all the time and I know I could do a job for them.

“With all due respect, there are players from all over the world getting a chance to prove themselves with the Trinidad team and I would like my chance.”

With all due respect to Roach, I hope he never hears back from our football authorities. It is one thing to have Birchall and Warner suit up for us, but to have a guy playing in an amateur league, that is just insulting. Look, I’d like to play for the Soca Warriors too, but I am not good enough. I realize that. Roach should too. Just because he was raised in England doesn’t mean he has superior talent than the players who grew up in T&T.

Enough is enough. Our team has the talent. Let’s stop this talk of importing more players.
