Red, a colour of victory: Warriors out to make history

May 17th, 2006 | By: Stacy-Marie Ishmael | 3 Comments »

The results of recent poll conducted by a Trinidadian newspaper, Newsday, would come as no surprise to anyone who has ever met a die-hard Soca Warriors supporter. Trinbagonians are convinced that the Warriors will advance to the second round of the World Cup.

Whilst I agree with Beenie’s outright dismissal of any possibility of winning the Cup, I’m not quite so sure that there’s no chance of T&T making it to the second round. [Hmm, could I have hedged any more in that statement?]

2-1 over Sweden, 1-0 to Paraguay and a 1-1 draw with England - who knows? Well, who better than a couple of scientists to provide an expert opinion.

Anthropologists at England’s University of Durham have found that “wearing red presumably tips the balance between losing and winning” in sport matches where skill and strength are otherwise equal. They cite Liverpool (FA Cup Champtions 2006), Manchester United (8 Premiership titles) and the South Koreans in 2002 as examples of sucessful “red” teams. In general, according to the article, teams who wear red score more goals and win more games.

Vibes it up T&T. Show your Warrior colours!

Hmmm… I don’t know if that would apply to the World Cup. I don’t want to ruin your good mood, but look at the greatest winners: Brazil, Italy, Germany (a little red), Argentina and Uruguay. Not much red in that, right?

In the ability of your players, trust, you must…

May the force be with them!

hmm. I am die hard fan
but honestly its a very difficult task making it to the second round. I think Trinis are getting carried away…the World Cup is played one game at a time..
I think in true Trini fashion everyone getting ahead of themselves…
Most of these people a couple months ago…were POSITIVE we were not going to the world cup. and the *now going to waste money to watch trinidad lose) attitude which they all had was sad. Anyway..my point is
in terms of paper we are supopsed lose our games..but i really as a football fan. I think we have every chance like anyother team to make it or NOT make it and this is the mindset we should have.
I can already point fingers at the people if we get knocked out jumping back off the bandwagon..

one game at a time people..
one game..

I can’t say i know we are going to make it..we have the ability to do so…so after being all pragmatic and so on..
LETS GO ALL THE WAY!
OR DIE TRYING
