Putting a spin on the Warriors

May 13th, 2006 | By: Stacy-Marie Ishmael | 2 Comments »

I’m rather bored of reading the by-now clichéd take on the Warriors as “the little islanders that think they could,” so I’ve been on the lookout for new, quirky or downright strange discussions of the T&T team.

Back in February I linked to a ‘human resources‘ perspective on the Warriors.

My latest discovery is from deadspin.com, a “sports gossip” website. On Friday they posted “Four Tiny Tidbits on Trinidad and Tobago”, featuring:

• 1. CONCACAF Rules! Wooo! (USA, Mexicol, Costa Rica and T&T are all in the CONCACAF zone)
• 2. Halt! Are You A Trinidadian or a Tobagonian? (a slight variation on the usual ‘tiny islands’ scene)
• 3. An Unscheduled Friendly, As They Say. (on Dwight Yorke)
• 4. Take That, Jamaica. (on our celebrations post Bahrain)

For the full read, vibes their website.
The post was amusing, but the comments were even better, although a couple of them did require imbibing a healthy dose of salt. An extract:

“So I hear Trinidad isn’t in Africa. Interesting.”
“Thank you for mentioning one of my all-time favorite names in sports, Stern John, which I always felt sounded like he was one of Robin Hood’s Merry Men.”

And my favourite:

“Oi! Oi! Oi!

Cuz I’m T.N.T., I’m DYNAMITE!
(T.N.T.) And I’ll win the fight!
(T.N.T.) I’m a power load!
(T.N.T.) Watch me explooooode!”

Good idea for a chant, methinks.

trinidad has chance to beat or draw with England now, i think. you guys will surprise some people. i just hope the big stadium atmosphere doesn’t intimidate your players.
