Trinidad and Tobago

Let’s Get Psycho(logical)

According to some Singaporean punters, “[although] there’s luck involved, it will take a miracle – and possibly a mental breakdown for all teams facing them – for Trinidad and Tobago, Saudi Arabia and Angola to go all the way.it will take a miracle – and possibly a mental breakdown for all teams facing them – for Trinidad and Tobago, Saudi Arabia and Angola to go all the way.”

That got me thinking. Luck? Well, we’ve got Jumbieno on our side, haven’t we? But what else can we, the Warrior Nation, do to help our team?

A few suggestions:

  • Get the gear – The Iraqi kit might not inspire, but all true Trinibagonians ought to be able to find something red – from tshirts to shoes. Be hardcore. Go head to toe. And make sure that you have something to wave. Of course, if you wanted to be uniformed member of the Warrior Nation, you could always join the club.
  • Sing the songs – Not just the official national anthem, but Maximus Dan’s Fighter, the true anthem of the Warrior Nation. All together now: “I am a Soooooooocaaaaaaa Warrioooorrrrrrr…”
  • Talk the talk – The Trinidadian lingo is wonderful and nuanced. Some useful phrases in the jargon: “Come on Dwight, lemme see yuh string up de goalie!” – which, of course, meant, “let’s go Dwight, let’s have a goal.” “Alright fellahs, doh study it. We go come from behind, dem goal eh no scene!” – the optimistic response any goals scored against us. “Oh gooooooooooodd allyuh! We win! We win!” – to accompany the victory dance when we beat Paraguay on June 10th.
  • Walk the walk – Beg, borrow or steal money to get to Germany. If you don’t have tickets, that’s no scene. You can watch the games on the screens outside the stadium. Even better, you can set up a riddim section. Pan might be banned from inside the stadia, but they can’t stop the music outside. Bring the iron!
  • Any other ideas?

Here are some more items to add to that list. [...]
