Kelvin Jack out of joint

April 7th, 2006 | By: Stacy-Marie Ishmael | 4 Comments »

Warrior goalie Kelvin Jack will be hanging up his gloves prematurely this season. Jack has endured tendonitis of the knee since last October.

In an interview with the Evening Telegraph, Dundee boss Alan Kernaghan admitted that recently Jack had been “playing through the pain barrier.” He added, “the World Cup does not start until June so I am guessing he should be OK, but he has been bothered by a string of different things with the same knee since last year, so it might be a worry.”

Hmm. This is a tough one. Despite my reservations about Jack’s consistency between the sticks, I’d still want him to be one of the three keepers that Beenie sends to the World Cup. Warriors fans shall just have to wait and see what happens next.

We’ve got depth at keeper so if Jack can’t go I’m not too worried. I agree though that I’d like to see him on the final roster.

[...] Jack - whose fitness for the World Cup is currently in doubt - will not be renewing his contract at Dundee. The 29-year-old goalie is reportedly “looking for a fresh challenge,” saying that while a career in England would be ideal, he “wouldn’t say no to going somewhere else in Europe.” [...]

[...] The long running debate over which keepers Beenie Man would send to Germany is finally resolved: it’ll be either Shaka Hislop, Kelvin Jack or Clayton Ince between the sticks. The question now, of course, is who the first choice goalie will be. Given Jack’s injury and Ince’s lack of Premiership experience, Shaka is my first preference. [...]
