Keepah!

Shaka: Ready to rumbleWarrior Chief Beenhakker has confirmed that Shaka Hislop will be in the sticks against England tomorrow.

Sweet.

I’m excited. I’m nervous. I’ve been listening to Madix’s song Keepah on repeat since Saturday [listen online | download]

Sings Madix in his ode to the goalie, most appositely:

“Keepah! / This man does make some miraculous saves / And just like the keepah we jump and we have / We thank all the strikers who on the attack / But we just can’t forget about the man in the back”

After his incredible performance against Sweden on Saturday, I don’t think anyone will soon forget the “man in the back.”

Shaka Hislop is more than an extraordinary “keepah”, however. He graduated from Howard University with a degree in mechanical engineering, and interned at NASA whilst still a student. He is also the proud father of four girls.

Even more interestingly, Hislop was born in in the UK, in London. Fortunately for T&T, in 1998 he chose to represent T&T after having been a goalie for the England under-21 squad.

How different history might have been had he decided otherwise.

Whilst you anxiously await tomorrow’s game, you can read Hislop’s columns for the UK Times.

Hislop’s giving Edwards and Latas (who are writing for the Guardian and the Daily Record, respectively) a run for their money in the literary sweepstakes.

Tick tock!

Vibes it up

I too have been playing Keepah over and over, during and after Saturday’s game. Thanks to your posts in large part, I have developed a Soca Warriors music obsession. So far I’ve found 61 tunes (a dozen are versions of others) located or discussed online, and found 38 of them in free streams, 17 of these for free download (almost all at least 128K quality), 9 on pay services like iTunes, and 17 on released CDs (some are available through more than one method). If you want to blog on this, I’ll send you my chart.

Colin.

Colin – do send me, I’ve been working on my definitive list of Warrior Music so it would be good to see what I might not have.

Cynthia – Thanks!
