Hislop: I want to be number one

February 13th, 2006 | By: Stacy-Marie Ishmael | No Comments »

Shaka Hislop is 36 years old, and has done his fair share of footballing for Trinidad and Tobago. The goalkeeper currently plays for West Ham FC in England, and he’s determined to make his mark at this summer’s World Cup.

In a recent interview, Hislop asserted, “I will be trying my hardest to get into the side and hold onto the shirt as long as possible because recently I have also been the number two for Trinidad.” He also expressed his hope that “a good run in the West Ham team” would hopefully see him “move up the pecking order internationally,” which would help with his aspirations for Germany.

Hislop ought to be feeling pretty confident after he kept clean sheets throughout his team’s thrashing of Birmingham tonight. He is, of course, competing with Anthony Warner and Clayton Ince for the starting position on February 28th, when the Warriors meet Iceland. Kelvin Jack, the Dundee keeper who is still recuperating from an injury, should also be back in the running by June.
