From Soca Warriors to Super Warrriors
First, the public holiday. Now, the comic book. The latest tribute to the Soca Warriors takes them from the football pitch to the comic strip.
The comic is the brain child of The Heroes Foundation of Trinidad & Tobago, an NGO which aims to “provide a source of inspiration for the youth of Trinidad & Tobago, by fostering an appreciation of local achievers and the concept of heroism.”
According to the article in the Trinidad Express, “the story is seen through the eyes of a passionate and loyal fan who also experienced the T&T Strike Squad’s loss to the United States on November 19, 1989.” [The Americans trounced us 1-0 in that match, depriving what was possibly our most gifted squad the opportunity to go to Italy.]
I do wonder what Dwight Yorke looks like in comic form.
