Well, what he actually said was, “We don’t care. It’s not our business.” Nonetheless, I think the Trini rendition does the sentiment more justice: dat eh no scene, I eh bizness, doh study it. Why?
Because the nonchalance and apathy that too often characterises the Trinbagonian approach to politics (and its close counterparts, corruption and scandal) seem to be going global.
Insisted Beckenbauer: “Our business is to give the participating countries the tickets they deserve. What they are doing with the tickets, it’s not our business.”
Perhaps not. But it the business of every member of the FIFA Ethics Committee, every representative of the T&TFF to explain to the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago and the international media just what is going on.
