Beenie: We’re Not Afraid of Roo

May 29th, 2006 | By: Stacy-Marie Ishmael | 1 Comment »

Leo ‘Warrior Chief’ Beenhakker has been making waves with his declarations lately. His latest announcement is a calculated jibe at the English lions.

Speaking at a press conference after the 2-1 loss to Wales, Beenie offered his unflinching opinion of England: “These guys should be prepared for everything but they never win. All I see with my eyes wide open is a team that doesn’t perform when it comes to the World Cup and the European Championships,” Beenhakker said.

He also sought to counter the media’s obsession with T&T v England matchup on June 15th, saying that although every one else was focussing on England, the Warriors first had to deal with Sweden, a match for which the team would be “very well prepared.”

He also said that “our idea is to win the first match and the second match and then go on. Any professional works in the same way. They prepare for the next match and I have spoken about the difference between training games and the real games. A team does not travel to Germany with the idea that we are going to lose a match. We know exactly where we are and we have our feet on the ground.”

Pragmatism, professionalism and a little bit of old talk thrown in for good meaure. Vibes it up, Beenie man.

Well i don’t know what all the fuss is about. Everything he said was entirely true. The only people who would take offence or make this a big deal is the English.

They only people who think they are the favourites to win are the English people.
