Beenhaaker Pleased with Win

Trinidad and Tobago coach Leo Beenhaaker is feeling pretty good about his team following today’s 2-0 win against Iceland in London.

“You can see the potential in the side and I learnt a lot tonight watching the players who have been called up for the first time. I think a lot of people will be surprised at what we will be able to do at the World Cup. This is a very good squad of players.”

I couldn’t agree more. The team looked strong and Beenhaaker will have some tough decisions to make in the coming weeks as to who will make the trip to Germany and who will not.

One guy who stamped his ticket a long time ago is Dwight Yorke, who earned the praise of his coach following a two-goal effort: “Dwight is still a great player and they do things like that. He is a special player and very important to the side.”

I like the thought of Beenhaaker having four weeks to train with the team before the World Cup. I’ve always thought that with a coach who preached discipline, we have the talent to be one of the better teams in the world. With Beenhaaker at the helm, we might just do something this summer.
