Trinidad and Tobago

A Real Warrior Princess

Miss Soca Warrior's Winning SmileAlthough it was the delegate from Togo who took home the title of the first Miss World Cup, T&T’s own Meagan Monsegue did a fine job of representing our Warrior Women, coming first in Group B and placing in the top 8 overall.

Ms. Monsegue very kindly agreed to share some of her experiences with the T&T World Cup Blog.

How did you first find out about the Miss WC contest? Did you have to compete against other Trini girls to be picked?

MM: Well I first found out about it from my parents. Carivog International in Trinidad was chosen to select the Trinidad and Tobago delegate, and I believe only a few other girls entered. My parents entered my pictures and Carivog chose me. I was chosen based on beauty and intelligence.

What has it been like so far?
MM: Oh, this has to be one of the greatest experiences of my life and it has yet to come to an end. It took me 24 hours to get here [Germany] but it was worth it. Before getting here, I thought the other girls would have been very focused and only concerned about winning but it turned out they were opposite. All of the girls were very friendly and they tried to talk to me although the majority spoke German. They were very easy going – I realise now that girls worldwide are very similar. We all wanted to party instead of going to rehearsals (laughs)

What has been the best/worst part of the experience?

MM: The best part of the experience for me was placing in the top 8. I was very surprised! The worst experience was being outside in the cold weather and rain at times…but now I am getting accustomed to it.

Who is your favourite T&T player?

MM: That’s a bit difficult because I respect each of the players but I would say Dwight Yorke.

What’s your prediction for the World Cup final?

MM: My prediction for the World Cup final is hopefully Trinidad & Tobago vs Netherlands.

What are you studying now, and what are your plans after university?

MM: I’m doing a degree in psychology and international relations. After university I am going to do my masterĀ“s degree, and I would like to represent T&T at the United Nations. I may pursue modelling…I have an interview with the Irene Modelling agency in Miami.

Thanks Meagan – and good luck in all of your future pursuits. You’re a perfect example of a true Warrior Woman.
